Week 14: Nearpod

This week, Ashley discusses why Nearpod is a must for any classroom! My school has been using Nearpod since March of 2020. At first, like any new resource, it was beyond overwhelming. Many teachers were beyond stressed with turning their Google Slides into Nearpod slides, but once we got the hang of it, we could not live without it! Nearpod allows you to make any Google Slides completely interactive for students during a live lesson. Since my school is on a hybrid model, it has been a lifesaver! Students can work on the Nearpod in person or at home. All you need to do is add the Nearpod extension to your Google Slides add ons. Nearpod and the extension are completely free to use!

Here are some of the amazing features of Nearpod!

  • LIVE, interactive lessons
  • quizzes
  • open ended questions
  • draw, type, and highlight on slides
  • polls
  • virtual field trips
  • 3D objects
  • Flocabulary
  • interactive games
Give Nearpod a try with your in person, or virtual classes. You won't be disappointed!

  1. Hi Jessica, I recall learning about Nearpod in our coursework too. I’m glad that you have found it effective for your students both in person and at home. It sounds very similar to PearDeck which I have used and found beneficial. It is fun and engaging for students, and gives me valuable data. Have you used PearDeck too? If so, do you prefer Nearpod or PearDeck? -Alison Smith

  2. I love Nearpod and Pear Deck as well. I think these two applications are the golden ticket for hybrid or remote learning. (Well, as close as you can get). It's so convenient to be able to combine the direct instruction of content on slides with student interaction and immediate feedback. I love teaching a concept with a slide and some examples, then having students identify the concept, then create an example with drawing or typing. It's just such a great one-stop shop. Nearpod also has the advantage of a lot of pre-made lessons ready to go. Love it! (JKelly Week 14)
