As my school district prepares to return in person, after over a year of strictly virtual, we have had to rethink the way we do things. In previous years, we have been big advocates for independent reading during class time. Unfortunately, with our new schedule, we will only be seeing our students once per week, whether they are in person or virtual. After discussing our concerns with our principal, we decided to allow students to take the books home, from our personal class libraries. Many teachers were worried about the loss of books from our libraries, since they are teacher funded. Therefore, I created a Google Form library checkout system. Students will browse our class library, see what books they would like to read, and check them out on the Google Form. The best thing about Google Forms is the spreadsheet feature. I can convert their responses into a Google Form and check to see when and if they return a book to my library.
Here is how my book checkout system turned out! The kids are so excited to use it. We also tried to encourage them to bring their own copy, since ours will have to be sanitized quite a bit, and put in book quarantine.

Great job! I am sure you made it exciting for them!
