Breakouts!

One of my all time favorite technology bloggers is Ashley Marquez. She is the owner of Teach Create Motivate. I love her blog so much I even bought some of her merchandise! In one of her posts, she suggested doing breakout groups, but splitting students up more intentionally. This week, I took her advice and decided to implement ketchup, mustard and pickles breakout groups. I placed students in my ketchup group that needed to catch up on missing assignments or things they possibly scored low on. Then, my mustard group was for students that needed to complete assignments that they had completely missed. This was my "must do" group also known as mustard. Lastly, for those students that turn everything in early, and are in need of enrichment, I created a pickles group, and allowed them to pick what they wanted to do from a list of activities. This worked great for engagement. I use Google Meets and jumped back and forth from each room to see how they were handling the work. It was great to see them collaborating with one another and asking for feedback. I will definitely try to utilize this once per semester, even if we are not virtual!

  1. It sounds like you are an early adopter of technology in your school. I look forward to hearing more about what you are learning and using in your classroom.

    1. Thank you! I truly do love technology and am always looking for new ways to implement it as much as possible in my classroom. My hope for next year is to create a digital classroom library and book checkout system as well!
